The Day in the Life of a Pioneer...

Hey Grade 3's!

I had a lot of fun today when we started our new unit in Social Studies... Early Settler in Upper Canada is going to be so cool. I really enjoyed participating in 'Do After Me': pioneer version today. All of you already know a lot about Early Settlers and First Nations, and all of your actions and ideas were amazing. Tomorrow we are going to start discuss the reasons why Early Settlers came to Canada, and where they decided to settle. We're going to do some interactive activities on the Smart Board, I can't wait!

Until then, check out this cool website. You can pretend to be an Early Settler, and make decisions based on questions that are asked. This game will give you some ideas about why Early Settlers came to Canada, and how they survived.

**Remember** If you find any resources about Early Settlers or First Nations, remember to bring them in if you can!

Parents:
We started our Early Settlers Unit in class today. We did a Tribes strategy in class, where I had students imagine they were a Pioneer/ First Nations child back in the 1800s. I asked them what they would be doing right now, and they acted out their action, and everyone had to "do after them'. It was a great activity and got all of us thinking about our new unit! I've asked students to bring in any resources they might have access to at home about our new unit. If they are unable to do so, that is completely fine!
